Born and bred Southlanders Des and Lynda Ford are excited about being part of what they see is a fast-growing sector, becoming the new franchise owners of Fastway Couriers Southland.

Des and Lynda both worked for herd improvement and agri-technology co-operative LIC, with Des involved in Deer Improvement Ltd and Lynda as a sales representative in the dairy sector.

Although they both worked for the same company, it wasn’t as a team, something that they are looking forward to with Fastway. As part of the Fastway Couriers business, the Ford’s also take on the Ace City Couriers business, which works in collaboration with Fastway.

“We wanted to work for ourselves, as well as together. We looked at a few options but Fastway appealed the most as there has been massive growth in the courier sector. We are in an age of convenience and people are busy, they want to buy online and get their purchases delivered to them,” Des said.

The Ford’s will continue to operate from the Fastway and Ace City Couriers depot in Bond Street and have taken on the existing four courier franchisees, 13 Ace courier drivers and four office staff.

They are focussed on growing the business but say they’re well equipped to get behind the wheel and pick up and deliver parcels throughout the Southland area, if needed.

“We’re quite happy to get behind the wheel. We’ve lived all over the Southland region and Lynda’s driven a school bus and worked for a transport company, so we both know what it takes to get the job done.

“We’re looking forward to managing and leading the Fastway and Ace City Couriers business and drive the team to deliver the highest levels of courier services and technology to the customers across our region,” Lynda said.

Fastway Couriers chief executive Scott Jenyns said the Ford’s are well-known throughout Southland with a reputation as hard workers and are joining an already great team.

“We’re thrilled that Des and Lynda are joining the Fastway Franchisee family. We’re celebrating 35 years in business at our upcoming conference in Nelson, and it will be great to welcome them into the fold.

“They have lived in Southland all their lives so know the people and the area very well. They are well supported by the existing team as well, so I’m sure everything will work seamlessly.
